Chipotle once had an investment in fast-food giant, McDonalds back in 1998 but it wasn't until 2006 when they broke away from that monster that the "natural Mexican cuisine chain" began to expand! Creating as of now, over 1,400 restaurant locations worth over 278 MILLION dollars.
Chipotle has officially announced that it will not only be labeling GMOs on the ingredients list of food products, but they will also be phasing out all GMOs on the menu. The chain has already made steps in removing additives in dairy and other items, but the new announcement signals a major recognition of the growing movement against Monsanto and GMOs at large.

Don't you just love industry leaders? The Chipotle Mexican Grill chain has surely won the hearts of many in the health seekers community thanks to Chipotle founder and CEO, Steve Ells. Overall the announcement made by Chipotle is one of the many results we are now beginning to see through spreading the word about Monsanto and GMOs, partaking in key activism movements, and deciding to purchase GMO-free organic foods.
What do you think about the decision made by Chipotle? Will you continue to support the chain or will you later become a new customer once they are indeed 100% GMO-free? Share your comments below. Don't forget to share with others :)
My husband and I visited England in 1999. At that time, England had just introduced strict GMO labeling requirements. We had no idea what that was all about, having had literally not heard anything about it in the US. I figured that GMO use and labeling would be soon arriving as an issue in the USA. I am seriously amazed that it has taken this long.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised as well! It's nice to see more companies taking this into consideration.
DeleteHalleluiia! I applaud Chipotle for their leadership in the fight against GMO! AS a mother of three the deception I see all around me when it comes to organic and wholesome, GMO free food is baffling and disheartening. This gives me hope that we will succeed in defeating an industry that is motivated by greed and not the well being of our citizens. Bravo Chipotle!
ReplyDeleteI agree!!! It's certainly a step in the right direction. It's so hard eating healthy with so much caution in the food supply. Bravo Chipotle indeed!
DeleteI don't know if GMO food is more or less healthy or better for the environment than not, and I have yet to see any evidence presented either way that looked like more than someones dressed up opinions, but I am still glad of this. In the 60's and 70's hormones and antibiotics became ubiquitous in our food supply with no national conversation or real study on the effects, and I think there have been huge consequences, everything from rampant obesity to children hitting puberty years earlier than is normal is likely impacted by those lightly taken decisions by agro corporations. Hopefully people will think a lot more carefully this time around, and if GMO food turns out to be OK then I am OK with using it, but if it turns out to cause problems then I say ban it.
ReplyDeleteGMO is definitely not anything you want to consume. Would you enjoy eating fake plants and nuggets made with fake breast augmentation filling? Me either. I say look more into it, it's very interesting information.
